An Open Letter to the Australian Bishops

The findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Australia concerning the Catholic Church are not only horrific but deflating. Grass roots trust in the capacity for leadership of Catholic Bishops is seriously undermined.

And our pride in being a Catholic diminished. The findings of the Royal Commission are discombobulating, leaving fertile ground for the spread of grass-roots anger and frustration that you cannot ignore. Why does the institutional Church continue to be so parsimonious in compensating victims, yet so generous in supporting the perpetrators? A more just and merciful approach is required.
